Preview: Cheltenham Town vs. Sheffield Wednesday - prediction, team news, lineups

Cheltenham vs. Sheff Weds - prediction, team news, lineups

Cheltenham Town will host Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday in League One, with the hosts looking to win their third consecutive home league game.

Meanwhile, the visitors are currently in ninth position, and they will be hoping to collect three points on Saturday after drawing their previous three encounters.

Match preview

Cheltenham have adapted well to life in the third tier of English football after earning promotion from League Two last season.

The Robins find themselves in mid-table after 14 games, and they will be content with their campaign so far despite seeing a two-game winning run ended by defeat at Doncaster Rovers last weekend.

After going 3-0 down, Liam Sercombe missed his spot kick for The Robins, before Alfie May and Andy Williams scored, but it was all too little too late for the visitors.

In midweek, their focus turned to the EFL Trophy, when after a goalless draw, Cheltenham earned an extra point by beating Chelsea Under-21s on penalties.

They will look to continue their fine home form when they turn their attention back to League One on Saturday, with Cheltenham having lost only once in their last six league games at Whaddon Road.

Sheffield Wednesday have only lost three times in League One this season, but six draws in 14 league encounters has hindered their bid to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

In fact, The Owls have drawn their previous three fixtures, with the most recent of those coming at home to Lincoln City last weekend.

Dennis Adeniran gave the hosts the lead early in the second half, but Lewis Montsma scored to ensure that Sheffield Wednesday would experience a 1-1 draw for the second game in a row.

If Darren Moore's side are to collect a victory at the weekend, then Lewis Gregory will be key, with the striker top scoring for The Owls this season with five league goals to his name.

In keeping with the theme of the season so far, Sheffield Wednesday have drawn half their away league encounters, but they can take positives from the fact they are unbeaten in their last five away games in all competitions.

Team News

Cheltenham are without Charlie Raglan, who is suffering with a knee problem.

Meanwhile, Will Boyle, Taylor Perry and Callum Wright are all long-term absentees for The Robins.

Alfie May was introduced in the second half against Doncaster and grabbed himself a goal, with the midfielder likely to be given a starting berth on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday have George Byers and Massimo Luongo back in full training after injury lay-offs, but Saturday's encounter will come too soon for the pair.

The Owls are also without Sam Hutchinson and Josh Windass, who are still out with injury issues.

Once again, Gregory is set to lead the line as Sheffield Wednesday attempt to end a run of draws with a victory.

Cheltenham Town possible starting lineup:

Flinders; Blair, Pollock, Long, Hussey; Sercombe, Thomas, Crowley, Chapman; Joseph, May

Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:

Peacock-Farrell; Palmer, Iorfa, Johnson; Hunt, Adeniran, Bannan, Brown; Dele-Bashiru, Berahino, Gregory

We say: Cheltenham Town 1-2 Sheffield Wednesday

Although, Cheltenham have collected two wins in their previous three league games, we think the quality that Sheffield Wednesday possess will be too much for The Robins to handle and that Darren Moore's side will pick up the three points on Saturday.
