Chelsea star Estevao Willian nets overhead kick for Brazil to open Selecao account, joins top-10 list

Chelsea star Estevao opens Brazil account with overhead kick against Chile, joins top-10 list

Chelsea supporters would have been excited to see Estevao Willian score his first Brazil goal against Chile on Thursday night.

Since arriving from Palmeiras in the summer, there have been flashes of brilliance from the 18-year-old who has been provided with more minutes than many fans had envisaged.

Estevao provided a stunning assist in the 5-1 demolition of West Ham United among his 181 minutes of Premier League football, but some of the prodigy's finishing as looked wayward.

There have been times when Estevao has either kept his head down when he should have passed, or tried something elaborate and the more difficult finish when sweeping the ball into the far corner would have been suffice for his first Chelsea strike.

However, he showed his goalscoring instincts on Thursday night as he marked his sixth appearance for Selecao with a goal.

After a shot was saved, Estevao was on hand to adjust his body and convert an overhead kick from just one yard out to open the scoring for his country against Chile and himself.

Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes also netted for Brazil as they eventually cruised to a 3-0 victory in the World Cup qualifier at the Maracana.

Estevao's 38th-minute goal has seen him enter the history books as he became the eighth-youngest-ever goalscorer for the Brazil national team.

In doing so, he has scored his first Brazil goal quicker than Neymar, who took 55 days longer, but Pele, Edu, Ronaldo, Endrick and Philippe Coutinho all look untouchable in the top five for the foreseeable future having netted prior to their 18th birthdays.

Carlo Ancelotti substituted Estevao on the 66-minute mark and must now decide whether to keep him in the team for the trip to Bolivia, which kicks off in the early hours of Wednesday morning (BST).

Chelsea are back in action against Brentford on September 13.
