While Barkley has endured a stop-start campaign, the Englishman has recently returned from injury to make successive starts for the Blues.

However, his long-term future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain given the competition in the middle of the pitch.

According to The Mirror, the Hammers are keen to secure a loan deal for the playmaker, who has previously worked with David Moyes at Everton.

The Scot is eager to bring in a new central midfielder before the end of the January window as he bids to move West Ham up the Premier League table.
