Report: Gary Cahill to extend Chelsea contract

Report: Cahill to sign new deal

England defender Gary Cahill has reportedly begun talks with Chelsea over extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Cahill, who was recently named his country's vice captain, has become a regular partner for John Terry in the centre of defence, and his fine form is expected to be rewarded with a new contract, according to the Evening Standard.

Jose Mourinho has made it a priority to extend the deals in place with key members of his squad, with both Cesar Azpilicueta and Thibaut Courtois signing contracts this month.

It is Cahill who now appears to be next in line as Chelsea look to secure the future of the 28-year-old, who is seen as the long-term replacement for veteran Terry.

Cahill moved to Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers for a reported £7m in January 2012.
