Real Madrid 'make progress in David Alaba talks'

Real Madrid are in pole position to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to a report.

Real Madrid have reportedly emerged as the favourites to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

The 28-year-old has still not signed a new deal at the Allianz Arena, and as it stands, he will be available on a free transfer at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

A recent report claimed that Alaba's agent Pini Zahavi had drawn up a four-club shortlist for his client, with Madrid joined by Barcelona, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

All four sides are believed to be in the hunt for the Austria international, but according to Marca, Madrid are close to concluding a move for the versatile defender.

The report claims that Los Blancos will wait until January 1 to officially open talks with Alaba but are confident of winning the race for the nine-time Bundesliga winner.

The former Austria Vienna youngster is believed to be looking for a contract of £350,000 a week.
