Olivier Giroud: 'Leaving Chelsea was the obvious choice'

Olivier Giroud has revealed that it was an "obvious choice" to leave Chelsea for AC Milan this summer.

The Frenchman spent three-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge after signing from Arsenal, but he cut his time at the club to an end in the summer by joining AC Milan.

During his time with Chelsea, Giroud won the FA Cup, Europa League and most recently the Champions League, finishing the top goalscorer during the successful European campaign last season for his team.

However, after making just 17 appearances in the Premier League during the 2020-21 campaign, it was clear he had fallen down the pecking order, with Timo Werner often being preferred by both Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

"I liked the Premier League, but at some point, I had to make a decision, I told Tuchel that the last three months had been too difficult," Giroud told Telefoot.

"It was an obvious choice to leave Chelsea, I moved on with great emotion for all the moments we experienced. Some were good, some others not so much, but we won three important titles."

Chelsea went on to strengthen their attacking options in the summer by signing Romelu Lukaku, meanwhile, Giroud has scored twice so far during his time in Italy.
