Chelsea transfer news: Nicolas Jackson confirmed as Bayern Munich player, shirt number revealed

Jackson leaves Chelsea for Bayern: Bundesliga champions praise forward, reveal shirt number

Bayern Munich have confirmed that they have signed Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, initially on a season-long loan deal.

A bizarre set of events have occurred over the final three days of the summer transfer window, Chelsea attempting to block Jackson's move to the Allianz Arena once Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury on Saturday.

However, the Senegal international had already been in Munich and stressed his desire to remain in Germany, despite Chelsea's insistence that he remain as part of Enzo Maresca's plans.

A saga threatened to ensue over the next 24 hours before Chelsea decided to recall Marc Guiu from his loan stint at Sunderland and insist that Bayern be prepared to alter the terms of the Jackson deal in the Premier League's favour.

According to widespread reports, Bayern are now paying a loan fee of €16.5m (£14.3m) while having the obligation to sign Jackson permanently for €65m (£56.2m) if a number of appearances are made.

Bayern react to Jackson signing

Speaking to the club's official website, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl talked up Jackson's persistence in signing for the club and described him as an "ideal" addition.

Eberl said: "Nicolas was immediately keen to play for Bayern, so we’re especially pleased that things have finally worked out.

"Even at a young age, he already has lots of experience at a top international level and has shown his qualities.

"Nicolas is an ideal fit for the profile we’re looking for with his dynamism and presence. He’s hungry and will expand our options in attack with his abilities, being an immediate boost for our team.”

Jackson will wear the number 11 at Bayern, taking over that shirt after Kingsley Coman departed the club earlier this summer.

He will now compete with Harry Kane for the number nine role in the team, as well as providing versatility on the flanks.

Major deal for Chelsea

Back in 2023, Chelsea committed to a £32m deal when signing Jackson from Villarreal, so having the potential to make a £38m is a major boost to their position with the Premier League's and UEFA's financial regulations.

Even if Bayern do not activate the alleged clauses to instigate an obligation, Chelsea are recouping almost half of the fee that they shelled out for Jackson through a loan sum.

Jackson leaves Chelsea with 30 goals and 12 assists from 81 appearances in all competitions to his name.
