FIFA reject Didier Drogba's loan request

FIFA have denied Didier Drogba's request to leave Shanghai Shenhua on loan outside of the transfer window.

The former Chelsea striker had been hoping to maintain his match fitness after the conclusion of the Chinese Super League season.

However, FIFA have been quick to turn down the 34-year-old's request and he will be unable to join a new side until January 1.

Drogba had been linked with a temporary move to Chelsea but with the Africa Cup of Nations commencing on January 19, it appears unlikely that any move will materialise unless it is on a permanent basis.
