Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly still Barcelona's number one defensive target, but a move this summer is extremely unlikely to come to fruition.

Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly still at the top of Barcelona's wishlist when it comes to defensive reinforcements.

After marshalling the Ajax rearguard during their extraordinary run to the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals, Barca were one of a number of sides linked with a move for De Ligt before he ultimately chose Juventus.

The Netherlands international has had a rough time with injuries since arriving in Turin, but he established himself as a key player when fit with 36 appearances in all competitions during the 2020-21 season.

De Ligt's future at Juve continues to be called into question, though, and Marca reports that the 21-year-old is still Barcelona's priority for a new centre-back.

However, the report adds that Barca's financial constraints would make a move 'almost impossible' this year, while Chelsea are also thought to have had a bid for De Ligt rejected.

Eric Garcia has confirmed that he will re-sign for the Catalan giants after leaving Manchester City, though, while Villarreal's Pau Torres is also said to be on La Blaugrana's radar.
