Chelsea transfer news: Alexander Isak stance 'revealed' as forward craves Newcastle United exit

Chelsea's Isak stance 'revealed' as forward craves Newcastle exit

Chelsea have reportedly made a decision over how to approach the availability of Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak.

After speculation regarding his future at St James' Park, it was revealed on Thursday that the Sweden international was interested in leaving the Magpies.

As a result, a striker valued in excess of £100m has effectively entered the summer transfer market as European football's biggest clubs contemplating whether to up their interest.

Despite the recent signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, it is suggested that Liverpool remain in the race for Isak and are the player's preferred option.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old will realistically keep his options open, aware that the Premier League champions have already spent excessively ahead of 2025-26.

What is Chelsea's Isak stance?

According to BBC Sport, one club that does not intend on trying to sign Isak over the coming weeks is Chelsea.

The report says that the world champions are 'reluctant' to reignite their previous interest in the former Real Sociedad star.

Chelsea have already purchased Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer, the pair both impressing during the recent Club World Cup.

With Nicolas Jackson providing a third option down the centre of the attack, it is felt that there is no need to enter the market for a player of Isak's profile.

Furthermore, the focus regarding incomings is currently on getting deals over the line for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato and RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons.

Should those chases end in a positive conclusion, it could signal the end of Chelsea's incomings for the summer transfer window and priority placed on facilitating sales and loans.

A bold choice from Chelsea's hierarchy

With Isak contributing 62 goals and 11 assists from just 109 appearances in the Premier League, he has justifiably emerged as one of the top strikers in Europe.

For Chelsea to reject the chance to enter the race for his signature is a statement move, one which essentially says that they remain faithful to their own process.

If the key figures at Stamford Bridge would have wanted Isak, their move would have come earlier in the summer, faith instead being placed in the likes of Delap who was the physical number nine that everyone associated with Chelsea were craving.

Seeing Isak eventually join Liverpool would represent a major blow to every contender's - not just Chelsea's - Premier League title hopes, but the West Londoners have compiled the kind of attacking armoury that will similarly worry their rivals.
