Chelsea, Strasbourg owners BlueCo 'hold conversation' with South American giants ahead of potential investment

Chelsea, Strasbourg owners 'hold conversations' with third club ahead of possible investment

BlueCo - the owners of Chelsea and Strasbourg - are reportedly interested in adding a Brazilian club to their portfolio.

Since the arrival of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital at Chelsea in May 2022, their strategy of acquiring a wide array of young players and generally removing experienced players from Stamford Bridge has received much criticism.

However, the Premier League club are now Conference League winners, back in the Champions League and were crowned world champions in July, outclassing European powerhouses Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

Meanwhile, Strasbourg, who have regularly signed a number of Chelsea players on a permanent or temporary basis, are back in Europe and one of the favourites for this season's Conference League.

The cons of the multi-club ownership model were recently proven when Crystal Palace were removed from the Europa League, yet it appears that BlueCo are targeting more clubs, albeit on a different continent.

Which Brazilian club is attracting BlueCo interest?

As per journalist Lucas Musetti, BlueCo have signalled their interest in either purchasing or investing in Santos.

The report claims that conversations have already been held between BlueCo and Santos' president in the United States last month.

Musetti stresses that BlueCo are, at this time, one interested party and nothing has progressed past initial talks.

Why BlueCo interest in Santos is probably not a coincidence

Chelsea are no strangers to conducting business with Santos having signed Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington from them in 2023.

Since then, Deivid has been loaned back to Santos for their return to Brasileiro, but the young forward has since been recalled to Stamford Bridge having failed to make an impact.

Santos are currently battling to keep themselves above the relegation zone, sitting in 16th place and only clear of that section on goal difference with 17 matches remaining.

With Chelsea frequently targeting the South American market, Santos may plausibly be viewed as an attractive club to send players to continue their development should they retain their spot in the Brazilian top flight.

That said, when it comes to allocating their six foreign loans for each season, that task would be made considerably more difficult.
