Chelsea reportedly agree to sell Olivier Giroud to Tottenham Hotspur, but only on the condition that they are able to sign Dries Mertens from Napoli first.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a fee with Tottenham Hotspur for Olivier Giroud but will only allow the move to go ahead if they sign Dries Mertens today.

Giroud is desperate to seal a move away from Stamford Bridge this month to boost his chances of featuring for France at Euro 2020, having been used just seven times by Blues boss Frank Lampard this season.

A controversial move to Spurs - which would represent his third London club - is his most likely option as they scramble for cover for Harry Kane, although there is also Italian interest in the form of Lazio and Inter Milan.

According to The Sun, Chelsea have now agreed to sell the 33-year-old to Jose Mourinho's side on the proviso that they can bring in Napoli frontman Mertens today.

The Belgian is out of contract at the end of the season and could be available for as little as £6m, although Chelsea's chances of sealing the deal today are rated as unlikely.

Mertens has previously spoken of his desire to become Napoli's all-time leading goalscorer and is currently four short of Marek Hamsik's record.
