Chelsea transfer news: Blues 'hot on the trail' of Nigerian wonderkid dubbed next Alex Iwobi

Chelsea 'hot on the trail' of Nigerian wonderkid dubbed next Alex Iwobi

Chelsea are reportedly interested in negotiating a deal for Nigerian wonderkid Abduljelil Kamaldeen.

The Blues are currently focused on trying to remain within close proximity of the top of the Premier League table after an inconsistent start to the campaign.

Possessing a squad with the lowest average age has contributed to Chelsea's difficulties, yet there are no signs that it will stop co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital from wanting to continue to double-down on their trademark approach in the transfer market.

While acquiring players who can challenge for a role in the senior squad is generally preferred, investment continues to be made further down the ladder.

According to The Sun, Chelsea officials are currently monitoring the Under-20 World Cup as they look to identify new targets.

Chelsea chasing next Iwobi?

The report alleges that Kamaldeen has been placed towards the top of Chelsea's list of priorities when it comes to young talent.

Despite being just 16 years of age, Kamaldeen was introduced as a 78th-minute substitute for Nigeria in their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Norway earlier this week.

There is now the possibility that the playmaker - who is viewed as a number 10 or left-winger - could earn a start for Friday's showdown with Saudi Arabia.

Kamaldeen has been likened to Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi, seemingly for his versatility and ability to create from either position.

As it stands, Kamaldeen is part of the Kwara Football Academy, but there is an inevitability about his eventual transfer to a European club.

If he was to move to Chelsea in the near future, the starlet would be provided with time to adapt to his new surroundings and be considered for the Under-18s and Under-21s, rather than come into contention for the first team.
