Chelsea reportedly emerge as the favourites to win the race for Vasco da Gama youngster Andrey Santos.

Chelsea have reportedly emerged as the most likely destination for Vasco da Gama youngster Andrey Santos.

On the back of their takeover in the summer, the Blues proceeded with a record-breaking financial outlay in that transfer window.

Unless Graham Potter is able to reduce his playing numbers in January, the West Londoners may opt against a similar spending spree at the midway point of the campaign, despite their poor performances in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, according to the Evening Standard, Chelsea appear well set to win the race for the highly-regarded Santos.

The report claims that Chelsea are in advanced discussions with Vasco da Gama regarding getting a deal over the line in the first month of 2023.

Despite being just 18 years of age, Santos has already made 37 appearances for the Brazilian club, 34 of those coming in the second tier.

However, regular game time away from the top flight has allowed Santos to develop with eight goals coming in their recent promotion campaign.

While Vasco da Gama do not necessarily have to be in a rush to cash in on Santos, who has a contract until 2027, it appears that a sale is close to completion.

The report suggests that Chelsea are ready to spend £12m on the Brazil Under-20 international, seeing him as a potential star for the future.

Chelsea are seemingly in line to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the race for Santos's future, something which will be regarded as a significant coup.

The pair are also in competition for the signing of Palmeiras prospect Endrick, who is attracting interest from the majority of European football's biggest clubs.

The 16-year-old and his family have already visited Chelsea and spoken directly with Brazilian legend Thiago Silva, who is in his third campaign at Stamford Bridge.

However, the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are also known to be admirers with both clubs possessing a strong track record when it comes to developing South American starlets.
