Cesar Azpilicueta clause 'won't affect Chelsea future'

Azpilicueta clause 'won't affect Chelsea future'

Chelsea reportedly have no intention of enforcing a clause in Cesar Azpilicueta's contract which may hinder his future plans.

The club legend has just over four months remaining on his contract, leading to suggestions that he may take on a new challenge at Barcelona.

However, according to Goal, Chelsea hold the right to enforce a one-year extension to the Spaniard's terms at Stamford Bridge, putting the European champions in a position where they could demand a fee.

Nevertheless, the report adds that club officials will not attempt to play hardball over the future of the defender, who they feel has earned the right to make his own decisions without any obstacles.

In keeping with their standard policy, Chelsea are unlikely to budge on their stance that no player over 30 years of age will be offered more than a one-year contract extension.

Azpilicueta, who has won every club trophy at Stamford Bridge during a near-10-year stint, turns 33 in August.
