Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel: 'All opinions valid on Premier League COVID issues'

Tuchel: 'All opinions valid on PL coronavirus issues'

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel feels that there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to how the Premier League should handle growing coronavirus issues.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has claimed that all opinions over whether the Premier League should halt the schedule due to rising coronavirus cases are valid.

On Thursday, it emerged that the Blues were the latest club to be hit by a number of positive tests, leaving Tuchel without any recognised strikers for the game with Everton.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has questioned whether the integrity of the competition can be maintained over the coming weeks if some fixtures are still allowed to take place.

While seeming to agree with Howe, Tuchel also feels that there is no conclusive right or wrong answer for how to handle the ongoing situation.

Speaking to reporters, Tuchel said: "He has a point, yes. But everyone else who says that he should continue also has a point. There is not one answer to all of these questions that are asked in society and to professional football right now.

"That is why I feel I should not go out with one proper opinion, and make myself believe that I am right on this. The situation is very complex, and safety and health is always at first place.

"We are still very privileged that we can still work and still have exceptions to the rules in terms of how we can work and come to work. We are privileged to be tested all the time, but I can, of course, understand the point that it is better to play against Chelsea with four positive coronavirus cases than not."

As it stands, five of the weekend's 10 matches will be played as scheduled, with Chelsea due to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Sunday afternoon.
