MP: 'Terry should step down as captain'

Damian Collins MP, who is on the culture, media and sport select committee, has called for John Terry to step down as England captain until his racism case is resolved.

It was announced on Wednesday that Terry's trial for allegedly racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand will take place on July 9, after Euro 2012. Terry denies the allegations.

"John Terry should stand aside as captain until the case is resolved, and any doubt either way removed," tweeted Collins.

England's first group game at Euro 2012 is against France on Monday, June 11.
