Jose Mourinho slams Newcastle United attitude

Jose Mourinho suggests that Newcastle are struggling because they try harder in certain games, after his side came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at St James' Park.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has criticised Newcastle United after his team came from behind to secure a draw at St James' Park, labelling the Magpies' attitude as "typical of a team that wins nothing".

Mourinho's side scored twice in the final 11 minutes to come from 2-0 down and draw 2-2 on Saturday, extending Newcastle's winless start to the Premier League season to seven matches and leaving them 19th in the table.

Mourinho praised Steve McClaren's side's performance against the Blues, but suggested that the reason the club are struggling in the league is because they only raise their game for certain fixtures.

"The reality is that they fought hard, they gave everything," he is quoted by The Mirror as saying. "You have to fight, you have to kick, you have to tackle, you have to run - so they were exactly that, and they fought for a point, and I think they deserved a point the way they fought.

"I think maybe one of the reasons why Newcastle over the years does not get good positions is because of this mentality, it is because they choose some matches to sweat blood and in other matches they do not.

"This is an attitude typical of a team that wins nothing."

Newcastle face a trip to Manchester City next weekend, while Chelsea travel to Portugal to play Mourinho's former club Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday.
