John Terry 'welcomes' FA investigation

England and Chelsea captain John Terry has said that he will prove his innocence after the Football Association announced that they will investigate claims that he racially abused Anton Ferdinand on Sunday.

"I welcome the FA enquiry and look forward to clearing my name," Terry said in a short statement.

The Metropolitan Police also confirmed earlier today that they will be launching a separate investigation into the incident following a complaint from a member of the public.

Ferdinand's club, Queens Park Rangers, earlier released a statement airing their views on the matter.
