Ivanovic appeals violent conduct charge

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has lodged a challenge against a Football Association charge of violent conduct.

The Serbian defender was handed the charge for allegedly punching Wigan Athletic attacker Shaun Maloney in the back during Saturday's 2-1 victory for the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

As a result of Ivanovic's not guilty plea, an FA regulatory commission will hear the case tomorrow based on video evidence and written submissions.

If found guilty, the 28-year-old will be handed a three-match suspension.
