Gus Poyet backs Hakim Ziyech to make Chelsea "more exciting"

Former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet believes that the arrival of Hakim Ziyech this summer will make Frank Lampard's side "more exciting" to watch.

Former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet has expressed his belief that Hakim Ziyech will make Frank Lampard's team "more exciting" when he arrives from Ajax this summer.

The Blues have already secured Ziyech's signature in a £37m deal, with the 26-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year agreement at Stamford Bridge.

The Morocco international has registered 21 assists in just 35 appearances this season, in addition to scoring eight goals of his own, and Poyet is excited by the prospect of him joining Lampard's squad.

"I thought last year he was outstanding, every time he got the ball you thought something would happen with creating chances and scoring goals. He is more individual than I was!" Poyet told Goal.com.

"He is more direct but he always tries to affect the offensive play of the team which is exciting for people. When people go to watch football, they pay to watch teams win but also see something special.

"I think he is that kind of player to bring something to excite people in the stands to get people buying tickets. I was very surprised at the situation where he signs four days after January for next season. I couldn't get it around my head but people have forgotten about his signing."

Ziyech joined Ajax in 2016 and has since racked up 82 assists and 48 goals in 165 appearances for the club.
