Ex-Liverpool doctor slams Jose Mourinho over Eva Carneiro treatment

Liverpool's former head of medicine claims that Jose Mourinho should apologise to Chelsea's team doctor Eva Carneiro for 'publicly humiliating' her.

Liverpool's former head of medicine has claimed that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is "100% wrong" in the row involving Blues doctors Eva Carneiro and Jon Fearn.

The Portuguese criticised his "impulsive and naive" medical staff for rushing onto the field to treat Eden Hazard in the closing moments of Saturday's 2-2 draw with Swansea City.

In consequence of the treatment, a seemingly unhurt Hazard was required to leave the field as Chelsea played out the game with eight outfield players, after goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was sent off earlier.

Carneiro has reportedly been punished for the incident by suffering a reduction in responsibility, but Peter Brukner is convinced that his fellow medical professional was right to act the way she did.

"It's got nothing to do with the manager," Brukner told BBC Sport. "You don't have doctors telling a manager to play someone up front or play 4-3-3.

"The doctor was 100% correct and the manager, in my opinion, was 100% wrong. He should apologise and the club should ensure that the doctor and physio are not demoted as a result of this.

"She has been publicly humiliated in front of the biggest audience there is and she had not done the wrong thing."

Brukner is now the Australia cricket team doctor.
