Troy Deeney: 'I can't explain Chelsea goal celebration'

Watford striker Troy Deeney reveals that there was a deeper context to his controversial celebration against Chelsea, but was reluctant to reveal the reasons behind his actions.

Watford striker Troy Deeney has revealed that there was more to his controversial celebration against Chelsea than meets the eye, but was reluctant to reveal the reasons behind his actions.

The Englishman netted a penalty to open the scoring against the Blues back in February, before showing his middle finger to the away fans inside Vicarage Road.

Deeney, speaking to the Hertfordshire Mercury, said that he was unable to divulge his actions in the Hornets' 4-1 win over Antonio Conte's side.

"The Chelsea thing, well actually there is a lot more into that which I can't say," the 29-year-old said.

"There was a lot more about that and there has been a lot more since, but it's two incidents and I'm a man at the end of the day.

"If you press buttons and say certain things, nine times out of ten I'm going to let it go. The one time I don't, you're going to get a certain reaction."

Watford are 11th in the Premier League table with six games remaining of their season.
