Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says that David Luiz's form does not come as a surprise to him.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has claimed that David Luiz's impressive form has not come as a shock to him.

Eyebrows were raised when Luiz returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window, two years after he was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for £50m.

The Brazil international struggled to make a mark on the Blues' backline during his first spell at the Premier League outfit, but since returning, he has slotted into Conte's three-man defence well.

When asked by reporters if he was shocked by Luiz's form, Conte said: "I'm not surprised because I knew David Luiz as a good defender, a good player with a great personality and a good technique. We are working with him and the other defenders to create a solid defence.

"He's a good player and has won a lot in his career but he must continue to win. For this reason he is at Chelsea, we wanted to buy him for this reason.

"But every single player can improve. This way of playing is good for him, but I know we can improve, not only a single player but the whole team."

Luiz is believed to have cost Chelsea £34m in the summer.
