Antonio Conte: 'Alvaro Morata must improve condition'

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte admits that club-record signing Alvaro Morata "has to improve his condition" in a bid to be ready for the start of the new season.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has said that Alvaro Morata "has to improve his condition" in a bid to be ready for the start of the new Premier League campaign.

Morata, who moved to Stamford Bridge in a club-record deal from Real Madrid this summer, made his first Chelsea start in the English outfit's 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup on Saturday.

The Spaniard struggled to make his mark in Singapore as Inter recorded a narrow victory, and Conte has admitted that the 24-year-old has work to do in order to be ready for the start of the 2017-18 season.

"Morata is just starting to train with us," Conte told reporters. "He has to improve his condition a lot to adapt quickly into our team. He is working well but it has been only five days. Today he tried to do his best but for sure he has to improve."

Chelsea will face Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium next weekend.
