Antonio Conte: 'Cesar Azpilicueta one of best defenders in world'

Cesar Azpilicueta must now be considered among the best defenders in the world, according to his Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has admitted that it is a manager's "dream" being able to call on a player boasting the world-class qualities of Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Spain international proved to be a consistent presence in the Blues' title-winning backline last term, playing every minute in the Premier League.

Azpilicueta has started the 2017-18 season in a similar fashion, even getting on the scoresheet as Chelsea brushed aside Azerbaijani champions Qarabag 6-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Conte was particularly impressed with the versatile defender's performance, telling reporters: "Last season Azpi was one of the most important players for us. In this position as a central defender he is one of the best in the world. He is very good with and without the ball.

"He's a fantastic guy, he's always positive, and during the training sessions he works in a fantastic way. For a coach to have him is a dream."

Azpilicueta has also claimed a couple of assists from the back this term, coming in the league wins over Everton and Leicester City.
