Ashley Cole says that the Premier League is more important to him than the Champions League.

Ashley Cole has said that he believes the Champions League trophy is less important than the Premier League.

The England left-back, who has been a part of several Premier League-winning sides, has starred in two Champions League finals and twice finished runner-up. However, the 29-year-old insists that the league is a more important target, as there is less "luck" involved.

"I've been lucky enough to play in two Champions League finals – and the first team I did that with we got there because we had a lucky draw," he said.

"To get to the final I don't think you have to be the best team – because you can get lucky. Teams like Barcelona always seem to get easy games. The further you get the more it's down to luck of the draw really.

"That's why I'd always want to win the Premier League more – every season. To do that, you have to play all the teams week in, week out. Nothing is ever taken for granted and to be champions of England is always a great achievement."

Chelsea are currently in third place in the Premier League, three points behind leaders Manchester City.
