Chelsea 'facing record fine for fracas against Manchester City'

Chelsea are reportedly facing a record fine for failing to control their players during last weekend's melee against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea are reportedly in danger of being hit with a record fine by the Football Association after their players were involved in a scuffle with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The West London outfit, as well as their opponents, were charged by the FA on Monday for failing to control their players in the dying minutes of the Premier League match.

Following Sergio Aguero's reckless challenge on David Luiz, a handful of Chelsea players reacted angrily, with Nathaniel Chalobah pushing the City striker to the ground.

Aguero was given a straight red card by referee Anthony Taylor, while a confrontation between Cesc Fabregas and Fernandinho resulted in the Chelsea midfielder being shoved over an advertising hoarding.

The English governing body has issued a four-game ban to Aguero, while Fernandinho will serve the standard three-match suspension for violent conduct.

According to The Times, Chelsea could be hit with a record fine as punishment for failing to keep the team under control, but Fabregas has escaped a ban for appearing to slap Fernandinho.

The four-time Premier League champions were hit with a record £375,000 fine at the end of last season for a similar melee that broke out between their players and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
