Cech confident of starting berth

Petr Cech has said that he has no intention of being Chelsea's second-choice goalkeeper this season.

The 32-year-old has been the undisputed number one keeper at Stamford Bridge since his arrival 10 years ago, but Thibaut Courtois's return has put a question mark over his future with the club.

Jose Mourinho is yet to reveal which player will start for the Blues in their first match of the Premier League season, but Cech has said that he will continue to fight for his place in the team.

"I don't want to be on the bench and as I said I will do everything not to be," the Daily Star quotes him as saying.

"I don't want to talk about ifs or buts though, let's see. I'm going day by day and we will see what is going to happen.

"All I have in my control is my performance on the pitch and the way I prepare. Anything else is not in my hands."

Cech has made 470 appearances for Chelsea since joining the club from Rennes in 2004.
