Benitez: 'Terry's fitness improving'

Rafael Benitez says that John Terry's fitness is "improving", but he is unlikely to establish a regular place in the Chelsea team.

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that captain John Terry is moving up to full fitness.

The former England international has failed to regain a regular starting spot due to a knee injury, which has marred the majority of the centre-back's campaign.

While the Spaniard has confirmed that Terry is "improving", the ex-Liverpool manager suggests that the defender is unable to play every fixture.

"He was training with us this week and he was doing well," Benitez said in a press conference. "He is training every day and improving his fitness.

"It is just a question of how many games can you play? We will have four games in nine days. It is the same for everyone. You can't play all these games and be 100%, not just him, everyone."

The Blues go up against Southampton at St Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
