Andre Villas-Boas denies deliberate yellow card

Andre Villas-Boas has denied accusations that John Terry deliberately got a yellow card during Chelsea's 3-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.

Rumours after the game suggested that Terry got himself booked in order to miss tomorrow's Carling Cup clash with Liverpool in favour of a crucial Premier League tie.

The Blues captain was cautioned by referee Lee Mason for time-wasting at a throw-in in the last minute of the game.

It was his fifth booking of the season, carrying with it a one-match ban.

Villas-Boas has denied that it was a premeditated act.

"Terry got a yellow card from a throw-in," Villas-Boas said. "Ashley Cole was looking for the best options and couldn't find any so Terry's out on Tuesday. "It wasn't a deliberate yellow card as they're not allowed by UEFA.

"Frank Lampard was also on four yellow cards and we didn't force it."

Chelsea face Liverpool in a Carling Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge tomorrow (Tuesday).
