Erling Braut Haaland and Kalvin Phillips are both named on the bench for Manchester City's EFL Cup clash against Chelsea.

Erling Braut Haaland and Kalvin Phillips are both named on the substitutes' bench for Manchester City's EFL Cup third-round tie against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.

After missing two games with a ligament injury in his foot, Haaland came off the bench to score a 95th-minute penalty to help the Citizens win 2-1 against Fulham in the Premier League last weekend.

Pep Guardiola stated in his pre-match press conference that Haaland is 'still not perfect', and the Norwegian is seemingly not 100% fit to start against the West Londoners, with Julian Alvarez starting his fourth successive game for City in attack.

City, meanwhile, have also been boosted by the return of England international Phillips, who is featuring in the matchday squad for the first time since September 14, and the midfielder will be hoping to get some minutes under his belt as a substitute this evening.

Guardiola has made a total of seven changes to the side that beat Fulham, with Ederson, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva all dropping to the bench, while Joao Cancelo is suspended following his red card last weekend.

Stefan Ortega is handed a start between the sticks and will be protected by a back four of Rico Lewis, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and Sergio Gomez.

Captain Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri are joined in centre-midfield by Cole Palmer, while Alvarez will line up with Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez in the front three.

As for Chelsea, former Man City star Raheem Sterling is named on the substitutes' bench by Graham Potter, while 18-year-old Lewis Hall is handed just his second senior start.

Manchester City starting lineup: Ortega; Lewis, Dias, Laporte, Gomez; Palmer, Rodri, Gundogan; Mahrez, Alvarez, Grealish

Subs: Ederson, Phillips, Stones, Ake, Haaland, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Akanji, Foden,

Chelsea starting lineup: Mendy; Chalobah, Koulibaly, Cucurella; Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Zakaria, Hall; Ziyech, Broja, Pulisic

Subs: Bettinelli, Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Gallagher, Mount, Hutchinson, Sterling, Aubameyang, Havertz
