Antonio Conte: 'Chelsea, Arsenal EFL Cup clash needed more injury time'

Conte: 'More injury time was needed'

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte believes that Wednesday night's EFL Cup semi-final first leg stalemate against Arsenal should have had more injury time.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has claimed that the EFL Cup semi-final first leg stalemate against Arsenal should have had more time added on at the end of the match.

The Blues dominated the majority of the encounter against the Gunners at Stamford Bridge but were unable to break the deadlock, leaving the tie evenly poised at the halfway point.

With VAR in operation during the game, Conte was unhappy that a late decision referred to the system did not see more injury time added on at the end.

"I think when there are situations you have doubt about, you have to check. But at the same time if you check in extra time you have to consider this," Conte told Sky Sports News.

"For me, it is the only disappointment about extra time because I think in the second half the doctor went on the pitch twice and the referee stopped to listen to VAR and you are to give more minutes in extra time.

"In Italy extra time is sometimes seven, eight or nine minutes. At the same time I think it is right to have the possibility to have this in today's game."

The second leg takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, January 24, the winner going on to meet either Manchester City or Bristol City in the final at Wembley Stadium.
