John Terry to miss Chelsea's trip to Southampton as he continues injury recovery

Guus Hiddink confirms that John Terry will miss Chelsea's match against Southampton at St Mary's as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink has confirmed that captain John Terry will miss tomorrow's Premier League match against Southampton at St Mary's.

The centre-back has been struggling with a hamstring injury since suffering the problem in the Blues' 5-1 rout over Newcastle United on February 13.

As a result, Terry was absent from Chelsea's 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their last-16 clash in the Champions League, as well as the team's win over Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Hiddink has also suggested that Terry is unlikely to return for next Tuesday's match against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

"John Terry won't be fit, he is still undergoing treatment," Hiddink told reporters. "Every now and then he goes in the gym and does his exercises but he is not fit.

"We need to be careful with him and this type of injury. When you have something in the hamstring you think as a player or a manager that it appears to be good but you must be careful and I am in favour of waiting even when everyone, including the player, says he is fit.

"I [prefer to] leave it three days more. We have Norwich on Tuesday and we will see if he is available for Stoke next weekend."

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Italy head coach Antonio Conte is close to signing a three-year deal to become Chelsea's permanent manager in the summer.
