Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea injury, suspension list vs. Spurs

Chelsea are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday night when they square off against Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

The Blues dominated the first leg at Stamford Bridge, a deflected Kai Havertz opener being followed by an own goal from Ben Davies to establish a 2-0 advantage.

However, despite being able to rest many players against Chesterfield at the weekend, head coach Thomas Tuchel is still dealing with several selection issues.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the fixture in North London.

Ben Chilwell

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Chilwell has undergone successful surgery on his ACL injury, but Tuchel does not expect the left-back to play again this season.

Reece James

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

James suffered a hamstring injury against Brighton & Hove Albion last month, and while the club have not put a timeframe on his recovery yet, he will not be available here.

Edouard Mendy

Status: Out Type of injury: International duty Possible return date: Unknown

Mendy has now linked up with the Senegal team for the Africa Cup of Nations and will be unavailable to Chelsea while his country compete at the tournament. The goalkeeper has also recently tested positive for coronavirus.

Trevoh Chalobah

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

Chalobah suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury in the second half against Liverpool on January 2, and it appears highly unlikely that he will feature on Wednesday.

Thiago Silva

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: January 12 (vs. Spurs)

While Silva has been ruled out of the last two fixtures due to coronavirus, it was suggested over the weekend that he has already recorded a negative test. However, protocols prevented him from returning to Chelsea's training facilities until Tuesday, leaving his participation very much in doubt.

N'Golo Kante

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: January 12 (vs. Spurs)

Kante has found himself under the same constraints as Silva. Even though he was due back in training on Tuesday, Tuchel has hinted that he is unlikely to take any risks with his fitness.
