Head coach Thomas Tuchel suggests that he is unlikely to take any risks on Thiago Silva and N'Golo Kante against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has suggested that he is 'unlikely to gamble' on the fitness of Thiago Silva and N'Golo Kante against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

The pair have missed the last two fixtures due to testing positive for coronavirus, resulting in their isolation until later on Tuesday.

Ahead of the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, Tuchel revealed that the duo would undergo coronavirus and fitness tests ahead of their potential involvement.

Nevertheless, given their lack of training time and a meeting with Premier League leaders Manchester City to come on Saturday, they appear likely to miss out on the game in North London.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Tuchel told reporters: "We have the same guys as we have in the cup game. No new injuries which is good for us, then we have to wait on the last-minute decisions for Thiago Silva and N'Golo Kante.

"I don't know. I have to wait in training. It's a gamble and I am not sure if we do it and how much of responsibility we can take there."

Chelsea head into the game having established a 2-0 advantage from last week's first leg at Stamford Bridge.
