Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers

Chelsea injury, suspension list vs. Wolves

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Frank Lampard's side have made a disappointing start to the campaign, winning just one of their opening four games before the international break in addition to defeat in the UEFA Super Cup final.

The Blues are also yet to keep a clean sheet this term - only Norwich City have conceded more in the top flight - and will hope to kickstart their season against a Wolves side yet to win in 2019-20.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's contest.

N'Golo Kante

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: September 22 (vs. Liverpool)

Kante has been struggling with an ankle problem since the start of the season and has not featured since Chelsea's second game of the campaign. The French midfielder failed to make it back in time for their last outing against Sheffield United and will again miss out this time around, although he is closing in on a return.

Antonio Rudiger

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Match fitness Possible return date: September 14 (vs. Wolves)

Rudiger has not played for the first team since April due to a knee injury, but he has been building up his fitness for the Under-23 side and could be available to feature this weekend.

Emerson Palmieri

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: September 14 (vs. Wolves)

Emerson was forced off after only eight minutes of Italy's win over Finland during the international break, but it was later confirmed that his thigh issue is "nothing serious" and he could still be in contention this weekend.

Pedro

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: September 14 (vs. Wolves)

Pedro was a late withdrawal against Norwich City after injuring his hamstring during the warm-up. The Spaniard could be fit in time for the visit to Molineux after using the international break to recover.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Status: Out Type of injury: Achilles Possible return date: November 2 (vs. Watford)

Loftus-Cheek is a long-term absentee for Chelsea and is not expected back until November at the earliest having damaged his Achilles at the end of last season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Achilles Possible return date: September 14 (vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Hudson-Odoi is back in training after an Achilles injury of his own and could be in line for some role against Wolves, although Lampard has insisted that he will not rush the winger back from his long-term absence and is more focused on getting him back up to match fitness.

Reece James

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: September 28 (vs. Brighton & Hove Albion)

James is nearing his return from an ankle ligament injury but is still likely to miss another couple of weeks as he builds back up to match fitness.

Marco van Ginkel

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

A forgotten man at Chelsea, Van Ginkel is on his way back to fitness from a long-term ACL injury, although there is still no timescale on his recovery.

Mateo Kovacic

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Achilles Possible return date: September 14 (vs. Wolves)

Kovacic played 83 minutes against Sheffield United last time out but was then forced to withdraw from international duty with Croatia due to an Achilles injury. The midfielder remains a doubt for this match.

CHELSEA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Chelsea have no suspended players for this match.
