Chelsea injury, suspension list vs. Liverpool

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup fixture with Liverpool.

Chelsea head into the UEFA Super Cup final with Liverpool looking to produce a positive response to their heavy defeat at Manchester United.

While Frank Lampard's team could count themselves unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, the newly-appointed manager quickly discovered that he has plenty of work to do with his defence.

Lampard is currently being hindered by a number of injuries, although several players are seemingly not too far away from a return to action.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news ahead of the fixture in Turkey on Wednesday evening.

N'Golo Kante

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: August 14 (vs. Liverpool)

While Kante featured during the closing stages against United, Lampard has revealed that the midfielder picked up another 'small' injury. It appears likely that the Frenchman will only feature among the replacements.

Willian

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: August 14 (vs. Liverpool)

Willian had already been a doubt for the trip to Old Trafford due to his late return from international duty, but the Brazilian was eventually ruled out with a hamstring strain. However, Lampard has revealed that the playmaker will be named on the bench.

Antonio Rudiger

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Rudiger has made good progress in his recovery from a knee injury, which he suffered against United at the end of last season. While the centre-back is close to being back in contention, this game will likely come too soon.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Status: Out
Type of injury: Achilles
Possible return date: Unknown

No date has been set for the return of Loftus-Cheek, who sustained a serious Achilles injury in May.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Status: Out
Type of injury: Achilles
Possible return date: Unknown

Hudson-Odoi is further along the road to recovery than Loftus-Cheek, although the winger is at least a month away from coming back into any kind of contention. It would be a surprise if the teenager returns before the winter months.

Reece James

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

James suffered a broken ankle while on international duty during the summer. Lampard has suggested that the young Englishman is making good progress, but he is still a couple of months away from featuring for the first team.
