Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham became the highest-scoring English player in England's top two tiers since the start of last season with his brace against Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday, per 90min.

The 21-year-old, who opened his account for the Blues with two impressive strikes, has scored 28 goals since the start of the 2018/19 campaign, having scored 26 times whilst on loan at Aston Villa last term.

Abraham's goals helped new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard secure his first win in charge of his old side, having watched them lose 4-0 to Manchester United in their first Premier League match of the season and draw 1-1 with Leicester City last weekend.

The forward was under pressure to get on the books for the Blues after missing a crucial spot kick in a penalty shootout against Liverpool in the Uefa Super Cup earlier this month and it took him all but three minutes to get off the mark against the Canaries this weekend, connecting with Cesar Azpilicueta's cross to blast a half-volley past Tim Krul and put the Blues 1-0 up.

Norwich did not lie down after the opening goal and equalised twice, through Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki, with Mason Mount scoring the second for the Stamford Bridge side. But Abraham would seal things for his side with another top drawer goal in the 68th minute.

The goals leave him as the highest-scoring Englishman in the top flight and Championship combined and he's now just the third-youngest Chelsea player to score two goals in a single game, behind Mark Nicholls and Eddie Newton.

The young forward ran to celebrate with his manager after scoring his first, something Lampard thoroughly enjoyed.

"I spoke to Tammy before the game today and I said to him that I felt today was the day," he told reporters after the win. "A bit of kidology really because who knows before the game, but I do trust in him and as a young striker you need that support. I did feel something for him today and it will do wonders for his confidence."

Abraham had scored 60 goals whilst on loan for other teams before notching his first pair for the Blues on Saturday and will hope to keep up the good form as the side looks to string some wins together following their slow start.

Betfair has the forward at 9/4 to finish the campaign as Chelsea's top scorer in the Premier League, but he's behind Frenchman Olivier Giroud, who's at 7/4. Abraham is at 25/1 to be named PFA Young Player of the Year with Paddy Power, with Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold considered to be the favorite at 8/1. But his Blues teammate Mount is at 11/2.

Punters could pick up some free bets for the Premier League 2019/2020 season at freebets.co.uk as Manchester City remain the favorites to lift the title at 1/2 with William Hill and Liverpool following at 5/2 with Bet365. Unibet are offering odds of 66/1 on Chelsea finishing above all chasers and they're 5/2 to finish the campaign in the top four with Bet365.

As for Abraham, the Blues will hope that the young English striker could continue in the same vein on the back of his impressive display against a troublesome side in Norwich on Saturday.

Lampard's men will face Sheffield United at home next Saturday, followed by a trip to the Molineux Stadium for a clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers after the international break, before hosting Liverpool at the Bridge next month.
