Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Manchester City

Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie with Manchester City.

Chelsea will be out for a slice of revenge over Manchester City when they tackle the Premier League champions in Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie at the Etihad Stadium.

The Blues' top-flight misfortune continued against Pep Guardiola's side on Thursday evening, as Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for the visitors at Stamford Bridge.

Graham Potter now begins his journey to try to win Chelsea's ninth FA Cup title, and the Blues got all the way to the final last year before experiencing penalty-shootout heartache against Liverpool.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with Man City, who were knocked out in the semi-finals by Liverpool in last year's FA Cup.

Mason Mount

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: January 8 (vs. Man City)

Mason Mount was nowhere to be seen in Thursday's loss to Man City after picking up a knock in training, but his issue is not a serious one, and there is a good chance that he will be back in the fold on Sunday.

Raheem Sterling

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Raheem Sterling lasted a mere five minutes against former club Man City before being taken off with a suspected hamstring problem. The extent of the damage is unclear, but he will not be expected to take part in the cup clash.

Christian Pulisic

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: Unknown

Chelsea's second injury blow on Thursday night occurred after 22 minutes, as Christian Pulisic came off after a crunching challenge from John Stones. Potter is hopeful that the American's issue is not too serious, although it is difficult to see him being fit enough for this one.

Reece James

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 3 (vs. Fulham)

The luckless Reece James continues to work his way back from the knee injury that he suffered against Bournemouth on December 27 and will not be available for another few weeks yet.

Ben Chilwell

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: January 8 (vs. Man City)

Chelsea have reportedly been handed a major boost over the fitness of Ben Chilwell, who is understood to have made a recent return to training, but it remains to be seen if he will be considered for selection here.

N'Golo Kante

Possible return date: March 4 (vs. Leeds United)

N'Golo Kante underwent surgery on a hamstring injury at the end of last year, and the injury-plagued Frenchman should spend at least another couple of months on the recovery table.

Wesley Fofana is working his way back from a setback in his recovery from a knee injury, although he should not be out too much longer and could even force his way back into the squad on Sunday.

Armando Broja

Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Armando Broja sustained a season-ending cruciate ligament injury during a winter friendly with Aston Villa, and the Albanian striker will spend months in the infirmary.

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: January 8 (vs. Manchester City)

Ruben Loftus-Cheek's troublesome calf problem prevented him from turning out in the defeat to Man City on Thursday, but the midfielder may be in with a chance of coming back in for the FA Cup showdown.
