Rio Ferdinand: 'There are no leaders in Chelsea team'

Rio Ferdinand says that Chelsea's defeat to Porto in the Champions League proves that the team lack leadership.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has claimed that the lack of leadership is ultimately what led to Chelsea's defeat to Porto in their Champions League Group G match on Tuesday night.

Jose Mourinho oversaw his side pick up a 2-1 loss against his former club Porto in Portugal last night.

With captain John Terry having a limited first-team role so far this season, and due to the recent departures of Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard, Ferdinand believes that Chelsea have no leaders in the dressing room.

"There was no composure, no real leadership out there," Ferdinand said on BT Sport. "You look back on past Mourinho and Chelsea sides. You had Drogba, Terry and Lampard who other players could look to, and they would turn around and say, 'listen I've been here before, don't worry, follow me, we'll be alright and get through this and weather the storm'.

"I didn't see that tonight. I didn't see players who would stand up and be counted in that way. I think they have a lot of work now to get out this group."

The Blues have suffered five defeats in nine weeks in all competitions this season, which is in stark contrast to their form in the 2014-15 campaign when they picked up five defeats in 55 weeks.
