Chelsea out to break Champions League clean sheet record versus Zenit

Chelsea out to break CL clean sheet record versus Zenit

Chelsea head into Wednesday's fixture at Zenit St Petersburg looking to set a new Champions League record for clean sheets.

The Blues have endured a mixed 10 days, collecting just four points from a Premier League triple-header against Manchester United, Watford and West Ham United.

Five goals were conceded during those three games, a rarity under Thomas Tuchel's guidance, but the European champions can still make history from a defensive standpoint in Russia.

As it stands, Chelsea have only conceded three goals in 12 European matches since Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge in January, their nine clean sheets during this period the highest of any team.

Should they shut out Zenit on Wednesday evening, they will have reached 10 clean sheets under the same manager faster than any other club in Champions League history.

Three managers - Louis van Gaal, Fabio Capello and Jose Mourinho - have taken 14 games to reach the landmark with Ajax, AC Milan and Real Madrid respectively.
