Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Zenit St Petersburg

Chelsea injury, suspension list vs. Zenit

Chelsea will aim to assure themselves of top spot in Champions League Group H when they pay a visit to Zenit St Petersburg on Wednesday evening.

The holders are already in the hat for the knockout stages after seeing off Juventus 4-0 last time out, and they are now level on 12 points with the Bianconeri at the top of the rankings.

Thomas Tuchel's side suffered a rare defeat at the weekend, though, as West Ham United rallied to win 3-2 to knock Chelsea off the summit in the Premier League.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Mateo Kovacic

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

Tuchel revealed during a recent press conference that the Blues will continue to cope without Mateo Kovacic for "five to six weeks", meaning he will not be available until the New Year.

N'Golo Kante

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

The luckless N'Golo Kante recently picked up a knee injury, and Tuchel has "no idea" when the Frenchman will be fit to play again.

Ben Chilwell

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Ben Chilwell suffered a partial ACL tear during the win over Juventus last month and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he recuperates.

Trevoh Chalobah

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: Unknown

Trevoh Chalobah started against Watford in midweek before picking up a hamstring issue, and the centre-back is set for further examinations on the problem as he misses out here.

Marcos Alonso

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Back Possible return date: December 8 (vs. Zenit)

Marcos Alonso had to be replaced in the 72nd minute of the defeat to West Ham due to back pain, and he is now facing a race against time to be fit for Wednesday as Tuchel ponders his options on the left-hand side.

Kai Havertz

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: Unknown

Kai Havertz took a knock to the ankle against West Ham and left the game with "huge pain", according to Tuchel, so he will surely miss out this week.
