Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Rennes

Chelsea injury, suspension list vs. Rennes

Chelsea resume their Champions League campaign on Tuesday when they travel to Rennes for gameweek four in Group E - which Chelsea currently top.

Frank Lampard's men beat their midweek opponents 3-0 in the capital earlier this month, and Chelsea have also overcome Krasnodar and drawn with Sevilla in the group stage, scoring seven times and conceding none along the way.

The Blues recently extended their winning run across all competitions to five matches with a comfortable 2-0 triumph at Newcastle United on Saturday, with Federico Fernandez turning into his own net before Tammy Abraham completed the scoring in the second half.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Tuesday's clash with Rennes.

Kai Havertz

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: November 24 (vs. Rennes)

Kai Havertz returned a positive coronavirus test ahead of Chelsea's first encounter with Rennes before the November international break, and the 21-year-old played no part against Newcastle United. However, Lampard has confirmed that Havertz will travel to France for the game, so he could be involved in midweek.

Christian Pulisic

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: November 29 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Havertz's fellow attacker Christian Pulisic has spent the whole of November on the treatment table after suffering a hamstring injury in the warm-up at Burnley on Halloween. The winger was sent home from the USA camp during the international break to continue his rehabilitation, and while Lampard has revealed that Pulisic is getting closer to a return, it will not be against Rennes.

Thiago Silva

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Fatigue Possible return date: November 24 (vs. Rennes)

Thiago Silva returned late from international duty with Brazil and Lampard was not willing to risk the veteran defender for the trip to Newcastle. However, Silva will be part of the travelling party in midweek, so he should be in contention to face Rennes having had a few days to recuperate.

CHELSEA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Chelsea have no suspension concerns for their trip to Rennes.
