Bayern Munich see off CSKA Moscow in Russia

Bayern see off CSKA

Bayern Munich have made it two wins out of two in this season's Champions League with a narrow 1-0 victory away to CSKA Moscow.

The visitors enjoyed a strong start to the match, with Mario Gotze and Arjen Robben both squandering early chances.

However, they made their dominance count on 22 minutes as Thomas Muller fired in from the penalty spot after Gotze had been chopped down in the box.

Bayern's trademark passing game was the theme for the remainder of the first half, though CSKA fought back and created two good chances before the break.

The first saw Zoran Tosic fire over from close range after Ahmed Musa's initial effort had been saved by Manuel Neuer.

CSKA then came even closer to equalising during the final minutes of the half when Alexei Eremenko's curling strike from 20 yards clipped the crossbar.

Despite the Russians threatening to peg Bayern back at the end of the opening half, the visitors made sure that CSKA saw little of the ball in the second period.

David Alaba fired a tame effort over with around an hour played, while Gotze shot off target soon after with a speculative attempt at goal.

CSKA mustered a couple of late opportunities through Tosic and substitute Seydou Doumbia, while Xherdan Shaqiri had an effort at the other end saved by Igor Akinfeev as Bayern held on to claim their second win of the competition.
