Preview: Celtic vs. Motherwell

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Scottish Premiership clash between Celtic and Motherwell in Glasgow.

Celtic will enter Wednesday's Scottish Premiership match against Motherwell knowing that three points would see the Scottish champions return to the top of the table.

As it stands, Ronny Deila's side sit second in the division on 45 points, but they are just two points behind the leaders Aberdeen, who have played two games more.

The home side will enter the match off the back of a 2-0 win at Hamilton Academical, which was their seventh away league victory this term.

Celtic have also enjoyed recent matches against Motherwell - winning three of the last five meetings and remaining unbeaten in the process. This season, Celtic have taken four points from their two matches against the Steelmen.

Motherwell, meanwhile, were beaten 4-1 at Dundee on January 10, but did not play at the weekend after their home match against Kilmarnock was called off due to bad weather. The strugglers have lost their last three in the league and currently sit 10th on 17 points.

Motherwell also have the worst away record in the league this season having lost eight of their 11 matches.

The home side have no fresh injury concerns from their win at Hamilton and could therefore remain unchanged this week. As a result, John Guidetti is expected to start on the bench, leaving Leigh Griffiths as the main striker. Highly-rated centre-back Virgil van Dijk is also expected to retain his spot despite speculation linking the defender with a move to Arsenal.

Motherwell, meanwhile, will be without the services of Henrik Ojamaa, who saw red against Dundee. As a result, Lee Erwin will hope to earn a start alongside John Sutton, who scored his side's consolation goal last time out.
