Celtic assistant John Collins to leave club

Celtic assistant boss John Collins announces that he will join manager Ronny Deila in stepping down from his role at the club at the end of the season.

Celtic assistant manager John Collins has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

The 48-year-old, who spent six years with Celtic as a player, joined the Scottish champions as Ronny Deila's assistant in June 2014.

Deila is also leaving the club this summer having steered them to the Scottish Premiership title in both of his two seasons in charge, and Collins has opted to join the Norwegian in departing Parkhead.

"I came with Ronny so it's only right I leave with him. A new manager will come in and bring his own staff with him. I'll go on some summer holidays, get some sunshine then we'll see," Collins said in a statement.

"It's disappointing to leave but a lot of people would be delighted to have what I've had. I've played for the team and got two league titles as part of management.

"There have been lots of highs, some lows, but we've got five in a row. There are not too many clubs in Europe who have five in a row. We've got it and the target now is six."

Celtic, who won the title for the fifth year in a row with a 3-2 win over Aberdeen on Sunday, will finish the season against St Johnstone and Motherwell.
