Cardiff sign Uruguayan defender

Cardiff City have added to their squad with the signing of defender Maximiliano Amondarain from Uruguayan outfit CA Progreso.

The 20-year-old centre-back has been awarded a four-year contract with the Bluebirds after impressing on a trial period earlier this summer.

He passed a medical in Cardiff on Friday and becomes Malky Mackay's sixth signing of the summer, with the newly-promoted Premier League club having already recruited internationals Steven Caulker and Gary Medel among others.

Amondarain has represented Uruguay at Under-20 level and was part of the squad that finished runners-up in July's 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey.
