Neil Warnock wants promotion record with Cardiff City

New Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock sets his sights on winning the eighth promotion of his managerial career - more than anyone else has achieved.

New Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has set his sights on breaking the record for the most promotions achieved by a manager.

The 67-year-old was confirmed as Paul Trollope's successor at the Cardiff City Stadium yesterday, with the club sitting 23rd in the table having amassed just eight points from their opening 11 games.

Warnock has won promotion seven times during his well-travelled managerial career, and he is eager to become the first person to reach eight.

"That is what I want to do before the end of my career. Nobody else has done that," he told reporters.

"You've got to have ambitions and challenges and that is the last challenge I think I have got in my career to do, and I hope I can achieve that while I am here.

"This [club] is geared to being higher than it is. We've all got to pull our fingers out and try to get us into a safety position as soon as possible and then you never know in football. There are a lot of games left."

Warnock's first match in charge of the club will come against Bristol City next Friday.
