Cardiff City announce Russell Slade as new manager

Cardiff City finally announce the appointment of Russell Slade as first-team manager.

Cardiff City have confirmed the appointment of Russell Slade as the club's new first-team manager.

The 53-year-old succeeds Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as boss after the Norwegian stepped down last month.

Slade resigned from his post with Leyton Orient on September 24, but has only just been appointed because of a dispute between the Championship side and the O's.

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan today told the club website: "I have personally offered Russell this opportunity after giving much thought to the needs of the club at this point in time and firmly believe that he is the right person for the job.

"I have spoken to many knowledgeable people in the game about Russell, and the feedback has been extremely positive."

Slade will take on a side who have won just once in their last eight league games and currently lie 15th in the table.

"It's now about building a relationship with the players and installing a strong ethos and work ethic. That's what I want us to take onto the pitch every week," said Slade.

His first two matches in charge will come in quick succession after the international break and both come at home against sides currently in the top six - Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town - on October 18 and 21.
